Why does 24″ LCD Monitor have whiteness on the edges when I go full screen?

When i go fullscreen and the screen don't take up all the space, so there is some black on the edges, however it is then i see whiteness on the black, so why does it do that? i bought it from costco, 24" Princeton LCD VL2418W, it was a display model i bought... that might be the problem? or is it some kind of config i have to mess with on the lcd menu? thanks a bunch
