This was the best monitor I ever bought. The picture is crisp, colors vivid, etc. The only minor gripes are:
a) The blue power LED on the front is too bright. I had to cover it with something for viewing the screen in a dim room.
b) The 1920×1080 resolution is fine for movies but is vertically challenged for normal computer use. For example, my 1600×1200 20″ LCD monitor can fit more text on the screen (and is vertically taller despite the lower diagonal measurement) and is thus better suited for business work such as reading annual reports, etc.
This was all very minor. The monitor quality is just excellent. I, like the others here, bought this at a warehouse retailer at an extremely attractive price. They sold like hot cakes! When I went to return mine, there were none left for sale.
Why did I return it? XP Professional could produce this resolution fine. However, Ubuntu 8.04 and Ubuntu 8.10 both had troubles. I ended up having to drive it at a lower resolution in Ubuntu, which resulted in annoyingly fuzzy text. Later, I discovered that Ubuntu 8.10 is quite happy with 1920×1200 but cannot seem to do 1920×1080–at least with my hardware. Fedora 10 also only worked properly with 1920×1200 and had to drive the monitor at a lower-than-native resolution. Since I need to use Linux (Fedora or Ubuntu) for scientific work, the monitor had to go back. It was emotionally difficult to return it: so much screen real estate; so much quality! Viewsonic has produced an excellent monitor.
If you’re using Windows, it’ll work just dandy. But for business use (reading vertically oriented documents) consider a 1920×1200 also before selecting.
I too purchased this at a club store for a discounted price ($219 with a coupon) and it is truly a beauty. I use it at work for documents mostly. Do not be put off by the earlier review’s comment about text–it is perfectly fine and the text is actually sharp and easy to read. Took five minutes to set up, and I’m back to work right away. Excellent product, and ViewSonic’s reliability is well known.
I purchased the ViewSonic VX2433WM from a warehouse retailer for an extraordinarily low price, which made it irresistable!
This monitor has vivid, crisp colors and is excellent at displaying graphics and video! By default, it is exceptionally bright, so I adjusted both the contrast and brightness to about 50%. This is a very responsive monitor with no ghosting present. It also came with zero stuck or defective pixels, which made me very happy.
The one area where this monitor could be improved is related to text display. At times, text can be a bit fuzzy on screen, but this is something I’ve noticed on other 24 inch displays before (notably Samsung). It’s not a show-stopper, but text is not as clear as on my 19″ monitor at home or at work.
The built-in speakers are awful, with a really cheap sound. Fortunately, I don’t plan to use them much. I think it has to do with function following form where, for beauty’s sake, the speakers are on the back and downside of the monitor, creating an indirect sound. The sound is much worse than on my old 19″ ViewSonic monitor.

This is really an excellent monitor. It displays the image sharp and with a neutral color balance and can be used for both office, games and movies.

You well exceed the requirements to run anything on the shelf right now. I wouldn't worry about FPS. What people don't realize is after you steadily hit 60+ FPS, it will be smooth no matter what because your eyes only pick up around 60hz to begin with. Not to mention any LCD monitor you buy right now only refreshes at 60hz anyway. The only difference that makes FPS matter after 60 is how steady it is, because if it jumps all over the place, it will create the illusion of lag.

Since the TV supports power voltage AC 100-240V you should be fine in both Australia and the US. Just make sure you have a compatible power plug for the US (if you've bought the TV in Australia)

You’re missing the main advantage here: Screen Real Estate!! Comparing it to the iPhone is silly (that was me quoting what others were saying). Comparing it to the iPod touch is fairer, and in this regard, I don’t see any less functionality. Portability comparison to the iPod touch is a moot point – I don’t complain that my 22″ Viewsonic isn’t portable, just like with my desktop PC – I get that if I want the screen real estate, I’ll do without portability. I'm not sure what you mean, but most laptops have a function key that allows you to switch between an external monitor and the LCD screen, but unless you have an extra video card, you won't be able to do dual monitor.

Widescreen DVD's are not for large TV's, but for widescreen TV's, such as HDTV's that are rectangular. I have a 10" portable widescreen DVD player that looks great with widescreen. Most movies come in widescreen and standard format either on different DVD's or on different sides of the DVD.
I would agree widescreen is a pain when it comes to watching them on a regular 4:3 television because the picture is so small. The fact they are recorded in widescreen, it's costly for the movie companies to create two different formats. When the movies are small enough, they can fit both formats on one DVD.
As widescreen TV's become status quo, you will see all movies come out in standard. Since about 25% of the TV's in an electronic store are standard, you better start saving up for a widescreen or learn to tolerate the widescreen on your square tv.
