Good monitor with a couple of issues. Colors are very bright and graphics are clear and distinct. I was lucky and don’t have any dead or stuck pixels. Love the 1920×1200 resolution. I wouldn’t go with anything less because then you lose too much screen height in my opinion.
The case looks good. I can only see the red in very bright light, it looks black in normal use lighting. The plastic on the back of the case seems to be very thin, and feels kind of cheap. Probably to save on weight, and the monitor is very light for it’s size. The stand and front of the case feel strong and sturdy enough though.
It swivels on the stand easily, but it takes a bit of work to change the viewing angle. I always feel like I am going to break it when trying to change the angle. The monitor does not have a height adjustment, and coming from a monitor that did I really miss this function.
The screen is recessed about a 1/4″ in the case. The problem here is that since the screen is recessed and the surrounding plastic is highly reflective, icons located at the edge of the screen are reflected on the plastic. This isn’t a big deal, but it can be a little distracting at times.
There is a fair amount of light bleed. On a black screen there is brightness around the edges of the screen. Again, not horrible, every LCD has some, but I expected a bit less for the price.
My biggest complaint is the viewing angle. The lower part of the screen is lighter than the top. Unless I lower my chair quite a bit or sit farther back (not an option if I need to type), I can’t seem to get the monitor positioned so this is not an issue. I did not have this issue on my old Dell 20″ LCD or my iMac.
For gaming I haven’t had any issues. Looks good, but you do notice the light bleed at times. Haven’t watched any movies on it, but I would think it would be the same as with games, you will notice a bit of light bleed.
I would not recommend this monitor for serious photo editing. For that I want a monitor that I can get a perfect viewing angle where the the colors and contrast will be uniform throughout. No matter what I have done, I can not get this from this monitor without having to sit at awkward positions. I will stick to my iMac for photo editing.
For everyday use and gaming I highly recommend the monitor. But if I was going to buy an LCD for photo editing, I would go with the high end Dell.
Edit: I decided to return the monitor. While I am very impressed with the brightness/color/sharpness, I became more and more annoyed with the consistency as I used it. It is a great gaming monitor, but the fluctuation in color on the edges of the screen when using it for web surfing or looking at pictures just annoyed me too much.
After some research I found out this kind of monitor is known as a twisted nematic (TN) LCD and it’s major drawback is a narrow viewing angle. Unfortunately most manufactures don’t list the type of LCD being used but if you search the internet, you can usually find out if it uses this lower quality type.
Up until now, I’ve been gaming on an eMachine 19 inch LCD monitor, which I’ve been using for over 2 years. And to be honest, it’s been a faithful little monitor with no dead pixels all this time.
However, I got tired of the 1440 x 900 resolution, which required scrolling down a lot to view web pages.
So, I bought the Samsung T240, which boasts a 1920 x 1200 resolution on a comparitively monstrous 24″ screen. Oh my, what a difference! I’ve been missing out on a lot.
But, if you do a lot of 3D gaming, beware that the T240, running in its native resolution, will require a beast of a video card to light up all those pixels at a decent framerate with all the game’s bells and whistles on. I’m running an Intel Core2 Quad 6600 and a 9800GTX, and even with that nice system, I had to turn off the DirectX 10 setting in “Stalker: Clear Sky”. The T240 has a total of nearly twice as many pixels as the typical 19″ monitor, so it will require twice the video card power to get the same performance as what you were used to with a 19″ monitor. Sure, you can still turn down the game’s resolution to get the same performance, and the picture will stretch to fit. But to see your 3D games in all the glory this monitor prvides, you will require a hella video card.
On to quality:
Zero dead pixels out of the box.
Brilliant, bright picture. It looks stunning playing games and surfing the web. The image is crisp and vibrant. I’m loving this thing.
The only drawback is that, while playing a very dark game (like black as night), there is a fair amount of backlight bleed-through around all four edges. For me, this hasn’t been a problem, since I don’t need to display pure black that often. I just bring it up in case you are going to be displaying a lot of black for some reason. This backlight bleed-through is fairly common with LCD monitors, however it should be noted that the higher-end monitors costing twice as much don’t have this problem as much.
Also, the stand swivels very smoothly, but does not tilt (at least I haven’t been able to do it), nor is there any height adjustment. The stand is just sturdy enough, but there is no wall-mount option.
This has been the perfect gaming monitor for me, but if any of those niggles I mentioned are a concern for you, you may want to consider something else. Just remember to get a nice video card to go with it. You’ll need one to drive all those pixels if you are a gamer or do a lot of video editing. If you’re not a gamer or video editor, however, your computer’s standard video should be sufficient for displaying web pages or using most windows apps.
PROS:
1.high quality build
2.beautiful “touch of color” exterior
3.hdmi connector
4.great onscreen color saturation
5.whole screen and stand easily turns side to side for optimum viewing
6.tilting screen up and down
7.solid stand
8.easy plug and play
9.many video options
10.vga, usb, and dvi cables included
11.great 3D gaming monitor with a low refresh rate
12.big screen size is definitely better
CONS:
1.hard to see menu buttons on side of monitor
2.hard to reach hdmi and usb connectors on back of monitor
3.no height adjustments is not a big deal
NEUTRAL:
1.no built-in monitor speakers, would be nice to have
2.red led power light blinks when monitor is off, will annoy some
3.no component cable connector, would be nice to have
4.glossy finish prone to fingerprints, scratches, and scuffs
5.TN panel lacks angular visibility
6.worthless install cd, don’t need it
7.edges reflect due to high gloss
8.0 out of 10 for overall. a good monitor producing stunning colors with an elegant exterior minus a few “bearable” annoying perks. if you ever decide to purchase this monitor, make sure you go into the menu and set the auto detect to “manual setting”. if you don’t, whenever you turn on/off monitor, the thing has to go thru all the monitor inputs before it “recognizes” that you have a dvi cable hooked up or whatever you have hooked up.
you can use it will work but no sound due to dvi

Diconnect the video card and plug it into onboard, I which your computer have onboard graphic card / or you did not changed it on the graphic card.
and press F8 and you will have option there enable VGA mode try that.
See if your video card may have HDMI port, hook it up with TV then.
Try high resolution support monitor and change it.
If no go try boot from cd Operating system re-installation.

I have a similar Q up now but I am specifically looking for one that will work well with my Macbook.
"Jarasicj" sure is right about the above monitor though! It does say MS Vista certified so I am not sure that is is best for me YET…
It does have everything and more on my list. I was only requiring a minimum 5ms refresh and this one has the fastest (I think) available. It also has just about every kind of port including HDMI, I don't have an Xbox so I don't know if I actually 'need' that but you never can tell. It also has a VESA mount in case I shell out the bucks for a wall mount…
I have been shopping for a monitor since Black Friday sales and this really monitor stacks up! NewEgg is also my source of choice since there is free shipping etc but then I am willing to shop with my feet to a local store if a deal is great.
Just thought I would chime in. I am watching your Q bc there maybe another good answer like the above.
At the right bottom of your screen check and see if it says 100% if not then use the plus sign and go to 100%.

while i haven't been able to make WMP widescreen compatible (and trust me i tried for quite a while), i have found using 'media player classic' a much better option, far less crap, only the controls you need, and you can make the displayed image fill the screen however you want, either strech to the size of the window, or use the numpad keys to get it how you want it… while it looks quite basic it is actually really quite advanced… you can get a copy from here if you want to try it out
HDMI is only better if you start with a digital signal.
Being your computer and TV both have VGA, it makes sense to just use that.
It makes no sense in your case to convert VGA to HDMI and get the same result.
So that’s gonna be goddamn expensive.
