Product Description
The 245T monitor has a 24-inch, 16:10 wide-screen format, with a 178/178-degree viewing angle. The viewing angle is achieved via Samsung's proprietary Super Patterned Vertical Alignment (S-PVA), the latest technology advancement in liquid crystal cell structure, for an improved user viewing experience. The 245T monitor's ultra-wide viewing area can support a range of multi-window applications, thereby helping to improve work efficiency and reducing the need for two monitors.Furthermore, the 245T model features a high 1920 x 1200 resolution, allowing the monitor to deliver clearer and more precise images. The 245T monitor's image quality is also enhanced by Samsung's MagicContrast which offers a super high contrast ratio and an extra-wide viewing angle that's ideal for providing detailed onscreen images. With the 3000:1 super-high dynamic contrast ratio, it's easy to read or view content on the monitor's screen. The 245T model also comes equipped with MagicSpeed, which gives users an ultra-fast 6ms response time (gray to gray), making the monitor ideal for computer gaming and multimedia-driven applications such as motion or streaming video. A faster response time provides better performance of motion video, and produces smoother edges, clearer images and a more natural image response. These features make the 245T monitor an ideal choice for a range of high-end commercial applications that require clear and precise images, such as CAD/CAM fine-detailed drawings, web and graphic design and desktop publishing.

Crisp, clean, bright picture. Brilliant colors. Much better viewing area than the cheaper competition. Hands down the best monitor I tried. I have tried:
Gateway FHD2400 24″ widescreen
Samsung 2496HM 24″ widescreen
Samsung 245BW 24″ widescreen
and this one.
The 245T has a pixel viewing angle of 178 degrees compared to the others which are 160 degrees. That means that I can see all the screen including the edges of the screen clearly. 24 inches is big. With a lesser viewing angle, the only clear viewability is directly forward at eye level. With 160 degrees, I look to the lower left edge of the screen and images are blurry and less color. 178 degrees allows it to be as clear and crisp no matter where my eye/head position is. With the 160 degrees, when I walked over to the monitor (standing) I could not see the elements of the taskbar (e.g. look for a “new mail” icon). I had to bend down and look at eye level to make out what was on the screen. With 178 degrees, I can see it while standing up. Huge difference.
The colors on this are the best too. The picture is clean, whiter, hotter, more adjustable. All the others had overly-red saturation no matter what settings I tried.
The 245T has actual buttons rather than the dumbly-designed touch/heat sensitive panel on some others.
I ordered this on Amazon, and it arrived next day and works beautifully.
It’s more expensive than the other monitors, but I use a monitor all day. Chintzing on a monitor would be a bad idea, like trying to save money by buying a cheaper mattress, or a cheap desk chair. Not a good idea to buy bad quality for something that is an integral part of my life.
If my needs were less vigorous, like paying bills online or other tasks that only involved brief episodes with a computer, I might be satisfied with one of the other cheap models. But in my opinion, there is absolutely no comparison between the 245T and anything else I saw in my extensive searching for a 24″ widescreen monitor. The 245T is worth it.
Warning: When considering any widescreen monitor be sure your computer’s video card supports the monitor’s “native” resolution. The native resolution is the one setting that produces the best display on any given monitor. All flat screen monitors have a native resolution. In the case of this monitor you need a setting of 1920 X 1200. See your computer’s control panel/display settings. Be aware this is a tough requirement and many computers can not support it. Even newer (budget) computers probably won’t support this setting. Be sure to check that your computer supports a display resolution of 1920 x 1200. I understood this requirement prior to my purchase and upgraded my video card accordingly (cost = $120 plus a few hours of my time). My budget computer was 6 months old.
Pluses: This monitor has a very wide viewing angle and you can stand above it or move side to side and see a very good image although not quite perfect. That may not be important to you but keep in mind that this feature adds considerably to this montor’s cost. There are many other fine 24″ monitors – including Samsungs – that use a different type of LCD panel which have much more restrictive viewing angles and they can save you $200 or more. These other monitors will look great when you sit DIRECTLY in front of them – they just do not look very good if you are looking even slightly from above or from their sides. Evaluate whether you need these wide viewing angles because you are certainly paying for them. Keep in mind that the viewing angles quoted by manufacturers are largely bogus. Cheaper panels exhibit significant color and contrast shifts if you even turn your head when viewing the monitor. For a casual user spending a few hours a day in front of a monitor this probably is not important.
Another Plus: This Samsung offers multiple inputs – far more than is normal. Beyond just a VGA (analog) and a DVI (digital) input – which are the only two possible connections needed to hook up any computor —- this monitor also offers a multitude of audio/visual connections. For example: I’ve connected two computors to this monitor plus a Sony Playstation 3. This model of Samsung even offers an HDMI input (the new standard for high definition TV connections) which I’m using for the Playstation. My Playstation 3 connected perfectly over the HDMI input at 1080p and since this monitor allowed me to select 16:9 scaling – I had a perfect picture. If I’ve lost anyone: the bottom line is this monitor will accomodate any playstation, dvd player or xbox 360 perfectly in addition to a computer (or 2 computers – one using the analog input and the other using the digital input). However you are paying dearly for these features and you can get a monitor considerably cheaper if you don’t need these extra inputs. In my case – they were a “must have”.
Other comments: For a Playstation or XBox you’ll need to add speakers. This monitor has an audio out jack (and even a jack to provide +12 volt power to the speakers) but no speakers. Any cheap computor speakers will work. It is shame speakers are not built-in.
Hype: This is certainly a fine display but I have to wonder at some of the other reviews which seem to suggest almost a magical quality to the display. I see a fine display but no better than my 19″ (which was highly rated) or my 22″ (also top rated). My 19″ cost me $200 and my 22″ $300. In another review, the writer says he is seeing new colors on this display he had never seen before. I don’t. My only conclusion is we upgraded from very different monitors. I see nothing different from my previous monitors but they were of high quality.
Bottom Line: This is just about the most expensive 24″ monitor you can find. It is an excellent monitor. At the very least you are getting what you are paying for if you need its features. Buy it if you need multiple inputs with great audio/visual support or you want a very wide viewing angle. Otherwise I believe you can get almost as good a monitor for considerably less.
Buzzing (see another reviewer’s comments): My monitor is DEAD QUIET and it seems virtually everyone else who owns this monitor says the same thing.
Addendum: How to set up this monitor. After a few weeks of use and re-reading a number of technical reviews — here are a few BASIC suggestions for setting up this monitor:
Brightness: 30 – 40
Contrast: 70- 75
Color tone: Normal or Warm 1
MPA: Off
DYNAMIC CONTRAST: OFF
RGB (that means red, green, blue): Lower the R (red) a bit if you find too much red in pictures – this seems to vary on a monitor by monitor basis but these monitors seem to favor red
If you are a graphic designer, photographer or just someone who wants a high quality monitor that can produce consistent color, and has a wide viewing angles, this is for you. This has a S-PVA panel, which is far superior to cheaper TN LCD panels used in less costly monitors. If you spend a great deal of time in front of a monitor for work, especially with color critical applications, it is well worth the additional cost. Out of the box this needs calibration, and the reds were “hot” which can be dealt with by reducing the red saturation controls. I have not noticed any buzzing sound as other have noted, even with my ear to the monitor. Overall, an excellent monitor and a good option versus the even more expensive Apple Cinema Displays.
Ya but we need to go again!
I am not a big fan of puffed up stats and specifications on notebooks, LCDs and HDTVs. It’s hard enough trying to figure out what the basically worthless refresh rates manufactures quote really mean. Toss in the increasing use of huge dynamic contrast rati…

Almost any monitor will be better than a laptop's screen. Laptop screens operate under severe power constraints that a AC powered monitor does not have to deal with.
Also, unless you have a 19" laptop, the screen size makes it better by itself.

2,4,5-Trichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4,5-T), a synthetic auxin, is a chlorophenoxy acetic acid herbicide used to defoliate broad-leafed plants. It was developed in the late 1940s and was widely used in the agricultural industry until being phased out, starting in the late 1970s due to toxicity concerns. Agent Orange, a defoliant used by the U.S. in the Vietnam War, was equal parts 2,4,5-T and 2,4-D.
2,4,5-T itself is of only moderate toxicity, with oral LD50 of 389 mg/kg in mice and 500 mg/kg in rats. However, the manufacturing process for 2,4,5-T contaminates this chemical with trace amounts of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD). TCDD is reported to be extremely toxic to humans. With proper temperature control during production of 2,4,5-T, TCDD levels can be held to about .005 ppm. Before the TCDD risk was well-understood, early production facilities lacked proper temperature controls and individual batches tested later were found to have as much as 60 ppm of TCDD.
In 1970 the United States Department of Agriculture halted the use of 2,4,5-T on all food crops except rice, and in 1985, the EPA terminated all remaining uses in the US of this herbicide. The international trade of 2,4,5-T is restricted by the Rotterdam Convention. 2,4,5-T has since largely been replaced by dicamba and triclopyr.
Apart from agricultural uses, 2,4,5-T was also a major ingredient in Agent Orange, a herbicide blend used by the U.S. military in Vietnam between January 1965 and April 1970 as a defoliant. Because of TCDD contamination in the 2,4,5-T component, it has been blamed for serious illnesses in many veterans who were exposed to it. Agent Orange often had much higher levels of TCDD than 2,4,5-T used in the US.

Apparently using an apostrophe like every other human being just doesn’t do it for you either.
I would strongly suggest an IPS panel if you can afford it, the color reproduction and viewing angle improvements are worth it, paticularly for design. Samsungs 245t and viewsonics are good examples

Hey Caymannes,
Take a look at your stand. I can't seem to find it anywhere on the web, but it seems the screen comes with three different types of stands namely the simple stand (which does not move) then the tiltable/swivel stand, and the tiltable/swivel stand with usb ports.
So depending on which one you have, your screen might not be able to be tilt. (check the cd that came with your screen, it shows you there which screen is which)

This was a catch 22 for me. Obviously to see my baby, and check they are OK was a good one. But I decided wireless technology is still in its infant days. Who knows in the future, whether exposing a baby to radiation is good for them. That's why I went with a wired monitor. So any wired monitor is the one I would choose, but that's the problem, most are wireless. Babies are especially vulnerable because their bodies and nervous systems are still developing and because they will have more time to accumulate exposure to the radiation and for any delayed effects to develop. The jury is out, but I don't personally want to be a guineepig.
I looked at
But in the end went with just a simple wired sound monitor. You can put them closer, due to a much smaller magnetic field and hear the baby breathing . It maybe that magnetic fields dont harm the baby, but there have been some concerns in some of the trustworthy papers here in UK such as the independant.
Lolwat?
check all you wire and connection it sounds like feedback from the wiring or short

The monitor or display of a computer is the primary user interface. Monitor problems are some of the most common computer problems since the voltages inside a monitor can be as high as 10 KV. Many of the problems can be fixed yourself by simply changing the settings. Detailed instructions available at
I'm not sure what you mean, but most laptops have a function key that allows you to switch between an external monitor and the LCD screen, but unless you have an extra video card, you won't be able to do dual monitor.

It depends on your camera. But usually there's a bar – similar to those on cell phones – that show how full the battery is. That bar gets shorter as the battery drains. Always good to keep the battery charged by the time it gets to the 1/2-1/3 mark in case a great shooting oppty comes up and you don't have a couple hours to charge.
I always carry a spare charged battery (and extra memory cd) with me too…

Why is somebody in California subscribing to the New York Times? For national news and editorial. That can move to the web and devices just fine. But can real, local, neighborhood news that people actually need move to a device? If it does, it’s going to disenfranchise a whole segment of the population that can’t pay $500 for it. Local newsletters/newspapers need to survive in some form.
