how do I pick out a lcd monitor (21-24″) for my inspiron 6000 laptop (does my graphics card limit me)?

I have a radeon X300 graphics card (i believe) and i have a VGA output on my computer. Does my graphics card play a role into what size monitor I can get? My computer is 1920x1200 resolution size. Thanks for any help! I just don't want to get a monitor that won't actually work for my computer.
